Since 2001 Athletics Australia has had a formal partnership with the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) to prepare the Athletics team for the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games and 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games respectively. The program that drives this process is the Athletics Australia Paralympic Preparation Program (AA-PPP).
The AA-PPP is funded through grants from the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) to the APC and then to Athletics Australia. The funding is used to:
Set standards as the basis for determining:
AA-PPP Performance Squad (usually Top 2-3 in the World)
AA-PPP Target Squad (usually between 7-8 in the World)
AA-PPP Beijing Potential (athletes that have qualified for Beijing)
AA-PPP Emerging Talent Squad
Organise and prepare teams to compete at major events such as the IPC World Athletics Championships, FESPIC Games, et al
Organise Domestic training Camps and Competition opportunities for AA-PPP squad members
Provide regular updates to AA-PPP Squad members through the AA-PPP Newsletter
Complete reviews of major events, write reports and submissions to relevant supporting bodies
Facilitate staff and athlete selections for major events
Monitor the progress and training of AA-PPP squad members
Employ key staff to oversee and drive the preparation of the Australian athletes
