Coaching resource aimed at teachers who would like to improve their knowledge on coaching athletics and on how to run athletic carnivals.
Athletics Australia, in conjunction with some of the countries best coaches and athletes, has produced a Secondary Schools Resource known as the STAR (Secondary Teachers Athletics Resource) program.
In essence, the STAR Program is a coaching manual for secondary school teachers who may have never taught the sport of athletics before, or who want a greater understanding of athletics. The STAR Program is in electronic format with quick and easy to navigate menu bars.
Modules covered: 100m/200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m/3000m, hurdles, steeplechase, relays, walks, high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hammer, javelin, multi-events, history, nutrition, injury prevention
Each specific event is covered in detail with instructions, plus:
* Sample training programs for one week
* Lesson plans of 45-minute duration
* Celebrity coaching tips
* Celebrity athlete tips
Athletics Australia has also taken the opportunity to update the pre-existing 5 STAR program and incorporate it into the STAR Award format. This is a comprehensive athletics program designed to instruct you in everything you require about grading, teaching and scoring the events involved in athletics and finally how to set up and stage a school athletics carnival.
Key features of the STAR Award are:
* Results points scoring grid
* Achievement and participation certificates
* Implement specifications
* How to mark an athletics track
* How to run a successful athletics carnival
The STAR Award program is an integral part of the Athletics Australia Development Pathway, which includes the Schools Knockout competition and All Schools Championships.
The STAR program is a major tool to enhance the knowledge of a familiar athletics teacher and a great foundation of knowledge for the athletics novice.
