The Coach of Merit program recognises coaches who have achieved outstanding success in international competition and have made a significant contribution to the development of Australian athletics coaches.
The Coach of Merit program offers funding of up to $10,000 per coach to coaches who in a calendar year have met the selection criteria.
To be eligible, coaches who apply for Coach of Merit funding will not otherwise be employed as a coach by Athletics Australia or a State Institute / Academy of Sport.
Selection criteria for Coach of Merit1. Coached an athlete ranked in the IAAF Top 10 Order of Merit achieved at September 30.
The Coach of Merit must meet this criteria. If the above criteria is achieved, the Coach of Merit will then meet the following criteria:2. Has the technical ability to develop athletes to international level over a period of time demonstrating repeatability of coaching performances.
3. Has been prepared to share their knowledge and contribute to Athletics Australia and ATFCA coaching workshops, publications and in other forums, to assist the development of skills in the broader coaching community.
4. Have demonstrated their support and have committed their athletes to support the National program.
5. Provides mentor opportunities for developing coach(es).
To be eligible for Coach of Merit funding, coaches will be required to enter into a one-year contract with Athletics Australia by signing the Coach of Merit funding agreement.
Application and selection process
Applications in writing will address each of the selection criteria.
Applications to be submitted no later than 5pm (EST) on November 16, 2007.
Applications will acknowledge the achievements of the coach in the Australian and international season for the calendar year.
Applications will be assessed by:
• Athletics Australia National Coaching Coordinator
• Representative from the ATFCA
• Athletics Australia National Performance Manager
Nominations for Coach of Merit will then be approved by the Athletics Australia CEO.
Coach of Merit announcements will be made in December 2007.
