Athletics Australia (AA) is committed to improving the sport of Athletics and opportunities for Athletes with Disabilities (AWDs) by presenting a clear plan through to the London Paralympic Games in 2012 and beyond. Upon creation of this Action Plan, AA is developing strategies and partnerships to address the relevant needs and assist with access for people with disability throughout all aspects of athletics within Australia. AA’s commitment to the ongoing support of AWDs will ensure inclusive practices established are sustainable for delivery of athletic administration through:
- Creating clear development pathways for AWDs.
- Ensuring effective partnerships with external organisations are developed and maintained to promote the athletic pathway for AWD’s.
- Development of national inclusive practices/framework for future planning
- Break down barriers and challenges that face AWD participation
This action plan provides a significant focus on a range of aspects to assist with growth and development of AWDs in Athletics within Australia. It is anticipated the AA action plan will be a working document that is adaptable to cater for an ever changing Athletics environment within Australia.
In accordance with the new Disability Action Plan – a National Framework for inclusion of Athletes with a Disability, the Athletics Australia Disability Strategy 2010-2012 has been developed. Particular focus is on key indirect participant areas Member Association’s, Clubs, Coaches, Officials and the direct athletic participants being the Athletes. Upon the development and implementation of the Disability Strategy, further targeted response areas will be used to ensure direct facilitation of objectives and outcomes.
This strategy will be used to further clarify and communicate direction in relation to AWD inclusion. In accord with the Disability Action Plan – a National Framework there will be a continuous evaluation of specific targeted response areas and objectives and outcomes, to ensure clarity and scope. Thus allowing all relevant action items to be revisited and reviewed on a regular basis to ensure relevance and strategic direction.
