The Canberra Athletics Classic will bring together Australia's leading athletes for a feast of Athletics action over two days as they chase Olympic and Paralympic qualifying.
Australia Day, will see track and field stars in action at the AIS Athletics Field from 3pm. On the following day, the shores of Lake Burley Griffin will see our leading walkers compete in a 20km (10km for juniors) race walk around the lake's edge. Later that morning we return to the AIS Athletics Field for a seated throwing event and relay action as our 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay teams strive to improve their International rankings and assure themselves a place at the Beijing Olympics.
Canberra has earned a reputation as the fastest track in Australia over many years. With a new track laid late 2007, this meet will once again enable athletes to post some of the fastest times this year in Australia.
Local athletes will also be on show with ACT Little Athletics competing in a mixed 800m and 100m events, ACT Veteran athletes will also compete in a mixed 800m and handicap 200m events.
Other Events on the Program include:
100m*; 200m*; 400m; 800m; 110/100m hurdles, 400m hurdles; Long Jump*, High Jump; Pole vault (Women Only),; Javelin* (Men Only); Hammer throw*; Shot put* (women only); seated shot put; seated (discus or javelin).
* AWD athletes included.
Entries for ACT Little Athletics and ACT Veterans events are to be lodged with ACT Little Athletics and ACT Veterans Athletics Club.
