Ron Clarke Classic secures new naming rights sponsor

T.E.A.M (Troop Events and Management) are pleased to announce Wheeler Investment Advisors as the new naming rights sponsor of the Ron Clarke Classic to be held on Sunday, December 2 at John Landy Athletic Field, Barwon Terrace, South Geelong.

Event promoter Lee Troop (pictured) is extremely pleased that Wheeler Investments Advisors are involved as it continues a three-year association between the event and the organisation.

“This is absolutely fantastic. Wheelers have been associated with us since the first year (2005) and now they are our naming rights sponsor. This year’s event has more significance than ever before with next year’s Olympic Games coming up and it is great that Wheeler’s can help us showcase one of the best meets in Australia and also provide an opportunity for local athletes to get closer towards wearing the green and gold one day,” he said.

Wheeler Investment Advisors director Brian Quarrell said "our company has been involved with the Ron Clarke Classic since it started but wanted to be involved in a larger capacity this year. The event is enriched with history but more importantly is very community focussed. We are very conscious of events that we support but for an event like the Ron Clarke Classic to offer as much as it does for local, state and national athletes as well as involving the local community groups, we as a sponsor are very happy to be involved."

The meet will run from 1pm to 5pm with the very best athletes in Australia competing in order of achieving qualifying times to help them gain selection for next year’s Beijing Olympics. The meet also has been sanctioned as a National Series meet by Athletics Australia.

The last two years has seen the meet rise in status after significant backing from the Victorian State Government and the City of Greater Geelong who are both determined to ensure the Ron Clarke Classic becomes one of the major fixtures on the Australian track and field calendar.

The meet will continue with providing quality races for the elite, Geelong school boy and girls races along with the Little Athletics Challenge between Geelong and Corio but will also see many new changes this year with the most evident being the newly refurbished athletics track.

New attractions include the Sportsco local football leagues medley relay, the Wizard Home Loans Geelong kids play area which includes free face painting, jumping castle and visit from Santa along with a live DJ, on-field race announcer and the Barwon Club’s hospitality marquee for all patrons.

An estimated 3000 people are expected to flock to Geelong for the four-hour athletic and entertainment fiesta, which begins at 1pm so get in early to purchase tickets at www.ronclarkeclassic.com.au

Tickets have now gone on sale and cost $10 adults, $5 children or $25 a family (2+2) and can be purchased online at www.ronclarkeclassic.com.au
