Steps towards constructing a new athletics facility in Perth are underway with a decision pending on the surface to be used.

Tender for construction has been advertised with work to begin in December and the facility to open in March 2009.

The boutique-style facility, anticipated to be one of the best track and field venues in the world, will have lights to accommodate twilight competition.

The decision on the surface is a hugely important one; a very significant investment ($64,000) by Athletics Western Australia and the other parties involved.

The options are Mondo or Rekortan.

Cost and maintenance aside, athletes, coaches and officials are encouraged to cast their vote here
