Australian Junior Athletics Championships (U14 to U20)

Athletics Australia and its member associations are introducing a new and exciting national championships for underage athletes in 2010. To be held at Sydney Olympic Park from March 11-14, athletes can only enter via their member association.

Larger than expected entries for some events have necessitated the inclusion of rounds not previously programmed.

Please ensure that your athletes, team officials and personal coaches are made aware of these changes, especially the changes to the Under 20 men's 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m and the Under 18 men's 1500m.

In the case of the Under 20 men:

(a) the 800m heats are now late on Thursday evening (previously early Friday morning). The final is as originally programmed;
(b) the 1500m heats are now required and are scheduled for Friday meeting in place of the 800m heats. The final is as originally programmed;
(c) the 400m requires three rounds and this additional round (semi-finals) is inserted on Friday evening at 5.00pm. It is the round that will be deleted if eventually three rounds are not required;
(d) the 200m requires three rounds and this additional round (first round) is inserted on Saturday evening at 7.10pm. It is the round that will be deleted if eventually three rounds are not required.

In the case of the Under 18 men, 1500m heats are now required and are scheduled for 8.05pm on Thursday evening. It is the round that will be deleted if eventually two rounds are not required.

In cases where additional rounds are required (ie the Under 20 men's 100m and Under 18 women's 100m), the additional round is simply inserted between the two previously existing rounds.
