Road Championships Move to Sydney Olympic Park

Athletics NSW and Sydney Striders are proud to announce the formation of a new event on the winter running calendar.

The Athletics NSW / Sydney Striders 10km Road Race will be held at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday, 3 May. The event will form part of the Skins Winter Premiership and incorporate the NSW Road Championships.

This pilot event is a collaboration between Athletics NSW (the state sporting organisation responsible for athletics) and Sydney Striders (Australia’s largest recreational running club).

The event has four broad aims:

  1. To promote a healthy lifestyle through the sport of athletics;
  2. To continue the legacy of the Olympic Games through the staging of mass participation events within Sydney Olympic Park;
  3. To promote linkages between recreational runners and Athletics NSW clubs; and
  4. To provide athletes will the opportunity to race over a certified, flat, fast course.

Athletics NSW and Sydney Striders sincerely wish to acknowledge the support and cooperation of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority and Skins Compression Garments in making this event possible.

Race Details

The races will start and finish within the P5 car park of Sydney Olympic Park. The course incorporates two 5km loops.

The program of events is:

7:45am - 10km - Incorporating NSW Road Championships in Open (Male & Female), Masters (Male & Female) and Under 20 (Male) age groups.

 9:00am - 5km - Incorporating NSW Road Championships in Under 20 (Female), Under 18 (Male & Female) and Under 16 (Male & Female) age groups.

9:30am - 2.5km - Incorporating NSW Road Championships in Under 14 (Male & Female) and Under 12 (Male & Female) age groups.

Competitors in the 10km event must either be registered with an Athletics NSW affiliated club, be members of Sydney Striders or sign a trialing member form with Sydney Striders on the day of the race.

Competitors in the 5km and 3km must be registered with an Athletics NSW affiliated club.

The first three competitors in each age group who are registered with an Athletics NSW affiliated club will be awarded championship medals.

The Sydney Striders DAG timing system will be use for this competition, for competitors in the 10km and 5km events. This means ANSW members will not wear their ANSW bib number in these races. Athletes in the U14 and U12 age groups must still wear their ANSW bib number.

Due to the time required to allocate entries to the bibs used with the timing system, the preferred method of entry is online via the Athletics NSW website. A differential pricing structure has been implemented to encourage this to take place.

Entries will be accepted in two ways:

  • Online via www.nswathletics.org.au  (closing noon on Wednesday, 30 April) at a cost of $15;
  • At the NSW Novice Championships at Scarborough Park, Ramsgate on Saturday, 26 April at a cost of $15 (cash and cheque only);
  • On race day (closing 45 minutes before the start of each event) at a cost of $25 ($20 for under 16 competitors)
