Aaron first participated in athletics at Knox Little Athletics Centre in Melbourne at six years of age, also showing skill at soccer.
He completed Year 12 at Caulfield Grammar School and was coached by one of Australia’s most renowned sprint coaches, Neville Sillitoe, who came out of retirement to coach Aaron on the basis that the youngster gave up soccer to concentrate solely on athletics.
In 2006 Aaron was awarded a Spirit of Sport Scholarship by the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
