Interesting Facts

Dylan lives and trains on the Gold Coast in Queensland, where he is coached by 1984 Olympic heptathlon champion Glynis Nunn-Cearns.

Sporting Career

A silver medal at the 2006 Under 20 nationals earned Dylan selection for the world juniors in Beijing, at which he repaid the confidence shown in him by making the semi-finals of the 400m, running a personal best in the heats and a similar time in the semi-finals. Those runs in turn earned him a place as a travelling reserve in the 4x400m relay squad for Oceania at the World Cup in Athens.

His abilities were shown by a win in a dramatic 400m at the Under 20 nationals in Hobart in February and a significant PB at the time in the IAAF World Athletics Tour meet in Melbourne in March, 2007. Although Dylan did not compete in the open nationals his performances were considered good enough for him to become a national 4x400m relay squad member.

Dylan ran well at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand, finishing fifth in his individual 400m final and running a strong first leg in the 4x400m relay team that won a silver medal. It was valuable practice for the world championships in Osaka where Dylan ran the second leg, performing solidly against seasoned competitors.

During the summer of 2007/08 Dylan lowered his 400m PB with a 45.69 in the Queensland championships. Later that month at the national championships Dylan ran fourth in the 400m final with a time of 46.57.

Dylan was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished fifth in their heat at the world indoor championships (3:12.69). Dylan ran a strong anchor leg, but a botched baton change between Milburn (second leg) and Ormrod (third leg) meant the team missed the final.

Having gained a place in the 4x400m relay team for the Olympics, Dylan travelled to Beijing for the Games. Unfortunately he wasn’t selected to run, but the experience alone set Dylan up for London in 2012.
