Interesting Facts
Fabrice played soccer from U7 – U16 level and also participated in
Little Athletics until U15s with Blacktown and Westfields AC. He
went to school at Westfield Sports High. During the Sydney Olympics
he worked as a volunteer media runner. Fabrice was born in
Mauritius.
Sporting Career
2002 – Talented junior who won silver at the 2002 world junior
championships in Jamaica.
2003 – Took up a scholarship to US College Texas A&M.
2005 – Won the NCAA long jump title,
2006 – Returned home for the 2006 Commonwealth Games trials and
jumped a personal best to win and gain selection for his first
senior international team. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games he leapt
8.10m to take home the bronze medal. Produced a personal best of
8.19m in Nuoro, Italy. Concluded his stellar year with selection in
the Oceania team for the World Cup in Athens, placing eighth.
2008 – Returned to form and jumped 8.10m on the Gold Coast. Headed
to Europe and defeated Olympic finalist James Beckford of Jamaica
in Ireland and placed second in Greece with a leap of 8.06m.
Fabrice made his Olympic Games debut in Beijing managing a best
leap of 7.90m in the first round to finish 16th overall. The
24-year-old was in the top 12 until the final round and missed a
place in the final by only five centimetres. One month after his
Olympic Games debut Fabrice leapt 8.14m to take gold at the IAAF
World Athletics Final in Stuttgart (GER).
2009 – 2009 has proven a huge year for Fabrice, his campaign
commencing with a last-ditch leap of 8.29m to take out the national
long jump title in March, the second Australian crown in his
collection.Leaping over 8.20m on four occasions in the year so far,
Fabrice produced a monster wind-assisted jump of 8.57m in Madrid in
July en route to his defeat of reigning Olympic and world champion
Irving Saladino. Just days later Fabrice leapt 8.24m to take out
the Athens Grand Prix, continuing to build on the good form that
has him in hot pursuit of Jai Taurima’s national record.
2010 - Started the year with a bang by taking out the world indoor
championships in Doha, Qatar, with a leap of 8.17m in March.
