Sporting Career
2006 – Jeremy scored a big breakthrough at the NSW state titles
when he ran 3:39.88 in the heats and went on to finish second in
the final. A few days later he ran a personal best time of 3:39.58
at the Sydney Track Classic and went on to finish eighth at the
Melbourne Commonwealth Games, his debut international meet.
2007 – It was a season of third places for Jeremy, rounding out the
podium finishers over 1500m in Sydney (3:41.48), Melbourne
(3:38.20) and at the national championships (3:42.88). In December
Jeremy went one better, placing second in the 1500m at the Zatopek
Classic in Melbourne in 3:42.80.
2008 – Jeremy’s domestic campaign got off to a flying start,
posting a season-best 3:39.72 to place fifth in Sydney, a result he
repeated just five days later in Melbourne when he finished fifth
in 3:41.14 in a field that featured Briton Andrew Baddeley and
Kenyan Bernard Kiptum. At the national championships he again
placed third, running home in 3:42.66. December saw a second
consecutive second place at the Zatopek Classic, following Jeff
Riseley to the line in 3:40.42.
2009 – Finished fourth in the 1500m at the Sydney Track Classic in
a time of 3:37.59 then bettered that position in finishing second
to Jeff Riseley at the World Athletics Tour Melbourne in 3:40.88 a
week later. He again finished second to Riseley at the national
championships in March, crossing the line in 3:37.62. Roff placed
second to Collis Birmingham over the mile distance in the lucrative
Leonora Gift in Western Australia in May on the eve of his
departure for Europe, where he soon recorded a new lifetime best
over 1500m, stopping the clock at 3:34.39 in Berlin, well inside
A-qualifying standard and elevating himself to No. 7 on the
Australian all-time list over that distance. In July he recorded a
new career best mark over the mile, crossing the line in 3:55.05 in
London.
