 Kerryn McCann

Kerryn McCann

Kerryn McCann (nee Hindmarsh)

Kerryn's athletic career started in 6th grade at primary school where she won the State Cross Country Championship. Kerryn ran her first marathon aged 19, placing 3rd at the Australian Championships.

Her most memorable moment of 2006, was the most memorable moment of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. In a stirring finish to the marathon, Kerryn and Kenyan Hellen Cherono swapped the lead over the closing 3kms as they ran towards the MCG. A capacity crowd within the stadium watched on the screens as the two athletes fought it out and roared whenever Kerryn took the lead. They entered the stadium to perhaps the greatest roar the 1956 Olympic venue has ever heard, which lifted Kerry over the closing 300m to take gold and successfully defend her title from Manchester.
