Commonwealth Champion Scott Martin competed in his second competition of the European season on the weekend. Here he shares his thoughts on his performance.
Hi Guys,
Well it was my second comp for the European season yesterday and was a pretty good result. Results below.
Discus was feeling really good, conditions where not too bad either. There was a good wind, maybe a bit left-handed but it started raining about 10min before the comp started and rained the whole way through. I have to admit though I don' think it effected me too bad.
I had a great comp, 4 over 60m and I just fouled a throw around 63 or 64m. I am in pretty good shape. Technically very close, I think by Oslo on 2nd June I will be ready for big throw. Hope so anyway.
Shot put was better than expected as well. I have not trained too much for it over the past 3 weeks, but given the conditions I did well I think. Also had a bigger foul, about 19,90m maybe. But the 2 throws at 19.5m felt pretty ordinary. I think because of the wet ring I was a bit cautious. Anyway I am pretty happy and ready for the next meet.
Halle was a great meet. Just throwing. There where good crowds (despite the rain) out to watch and they would clap the throwers in like they would for a long jumper in Aus. It was a very packed schedule however so I did not get to watch any other events.
We had the banquet last night, which was fun, good chance to drink with some of the throwers and catch up with Dariusz. They had a massive stage show but it was all in German so I had no idea what was going on. But I did not need to know German when they started dancing around the tables and handing out sausages, pretty funny.
Enjoy the cold weather,
Scott
