Following the recent Australian Government review and the resulting report “Pathway’s to Success”, Athletics Australia has implemented a contract system for its top Athletes with a portion of the individual funding it has received.
The contracts are on multiple levels and include funding direct from Athletics Australia and via the Australian Sports Commission’s Direct Athlete Support (DAS) program.
Peak Performance Category 1 (PPC1) means a category only including those Athletes who have either finished in the top eight of the most recent major championships (being the Olympic Games or World Championships) or attained a performance standard that places them in the top four positions on the IAAF top list for a particular event of the relevant year.
Peak Performance Category 2 (PPP2) means a category only including those Athletes who have:
a) finished between 9th – 16th place (inclusive) at the most recent major championships (Olympic Games or World Championships); or
b) attained a performance standard that places them between 5th and 8th position (inclusive) on the IAAF top list for a particular event of the relevant year; or
c) won a Commonwealth Games or World Indoor Championships gold medal in an individual event at the most recent Commonwealth Games or world Indoor Championships; or
d) set a new Australian record in a championship event in the previous 12 months; or
e) won an individual medal at a major championships (being the Olympic Games or World Championships) in the past four years and are deemed to be at the same level of performance as the medal winning performance by the Athletics Australia High Performance Manager.
Target Talent Program Contracts (TTP1) means a category only including those Athletes who have:
1) achieved a world class performance at the most recent major junior international championships by either:
a) finished between 1st and 3rd place (inclusive) at the most recent major junior world championships (World Juniors or World Youths); or
b) finished between 1st and 3rd place (inclusive) at other major junior championships (Youth Olympic Games); and
2) attained a performance standard that places them between 1st and 3rd position (inclusive) on the IAAF top list for the athletes age group in a particular event of the relevant year; and
3) represented Australia in a major senior international championship whilst being a junior; and
4) have achieved a performance above or on par with previous Australian best performances.; and,
5) are currently residing in Australia
PPC1 contracts are in the range of $30,000 to $50,000. Seven athletes have been offered these contracts.
PPC2 contracts are in the range of $15,000 to $30,000. Twenty one athletes have been offered these contracts.
TTP1 contracts are up to $10,000 in value. Three athletes have been offered this contract.
This contract money is a base payment. Additional funding is provided as required for specific team preparations.
