Travel insurance for athletes competing overseas

Under Athletics Australia’s insurance policy, nominated athletes are covered for travel insurance while travelling overseas. Cover under this policy applies whilst an insured person is engaged in a journey (to and from nominated competitions) undertaken on Athletics Australia’s approval, including any incidental private travel that occurs within a one week period after the competition or approved training program finishes.

Cover under this policy applies to those athletes who have been selected to represent their country by Athletics Australia, or for those athletes vying for selection into international competition and travelling with the approval of Athletics Australia's High Performance Manager. Athletes are covered from the time their journey begins until one week following the completion of the competition.

HOW TO GET INSURANCE

- If you are a member of an official Athletics Australia Team you automatically are covered for travel insurance. If you are not following a set team itinerary you need to provide the High Performance Manager with your competition schedule and any changes to this schedule as they arise. You must be currently registered with a Member Association and be in good standing (i.e. do not owe the association money, are not under suspension for any reason etc). You must also have provided your current training location information to the High Performance office. Until this is done the insurance policy does not cover you.

- If you are vying for selection into international competition and travelling with the approval of Athletics Australia's High Performance department you must apply to the High Performance office (details below) to confirm or otherwise approve any travel insurance covered by the Athletics Australia policy. You must also have an international travel permit from Athletics Australia. This requires you to be currently registered with a Member Association and be in good standing (i.e. do not owe the association money, are not under suspension for any reason etc). You must also have provided your current training location information to the High Performance office.
