IAAF World Junior Championships, Beijing China
Day Two Morning Session Wrap
Highlights
Commonwealth Games representative Vicky Parnov (WA) qualified for the final of the womens pole vault after clearing the automatic qualifying height of 4.00m. Parnov entered the competition at 3.90m with a first attempt clearance, before success at 4.00m on her second attempt. 2003 World Youth Championships bronze medalist Charmaine Lucock (QLD) began confidently with first attempt clearances at 3.80m and 3.90m before passing at 3.95m. Three misses at 4.00m left Lucock outside the qualifiers for the final, with eleven automatic qualifiers; a first attempt success at 3.95 was required for the last spot, meaning Lucock will not line-up with Parnov in Friday nights final.
Queenslands Andrew Yong finished fifth in his heat of the 400m hurdles, however he was the fastest non-automatic qualifier for tomorrow nights semi-final with his time of 52.42.
Victorian javelin thrower Nathan Burgess was just 7cm off his personal best with a 68.12m effort in the qualifying round. However the automatic qualifying distance was set at 70.00m and with nine athletes reaching the mark, 69.58m was required to make the final.
Competition continues tonight with Andrew Welch (QLD) in the final of the discus and Robbie Crowther (QLD) a medal chance in the mens long jump final. Lauren Boden (ACT) competes in the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles, as do Alex Bubner (SA), Dylan Grant (QLD) and Angie Blackburn (ACT) in the 400m semis and Lachlan Renshaw and Zoe Buckman in the 800m semi-finals.
