  Alana Boyd will make Australian Olympic history when she competes in Beijing as the only child of two Olympians ever to compete for Australia. With a recently set personal best in Monaco she will go into Beijing with some confidence that things are on the up.

  John Steffensen was philosophical about his decision to withdraw from the individual 400m and focus his energy on the 4 x 400m relay.

  Long jumper, Fabrice Lapierre was one of the final track & field athletes to be selected for Beijing. The 24 year old sits at number five on the all time Australian list, with a personal best leap of 8.19m. If he reproduces that form during qualification on Saturday morning, he could find himself on the biggest stage of his career to date.

  Not since 1956 has Australia had two shot putters at the Olympic games. Not only will Australia have two male shot putters in Beijing, they are the best two best we've ever produced.

  Australia's world class 400m runners continued our proud tradition over one lap at the Bird's Nest this morning. Both Joel Milburn and Sean Wroe performed personal bests and automatically qualified for the semi finals.

  Australia's marathon women performed admirably in Beijing this morning. Then during the evening session, hurdler Sally McLellan qualified comfortably for the semi finals of the 100m hurdles.

  A massive night for Australia in the Birds Nest has been capped off by Youcef Abdi placing 6th in the mens 3000m steeplechase final.

  Sally McLellan won Australia's first ever Olympic medal in the 100m hurdles last night, in a packed out Bird's Nest.

  The Australian track & field team experienced a sweet and sour evening in the Bird's Nest on day six. Five athletes were involved in preliminary rounds, with mixed results.

  Six Australian's were in action on day 7 at the Bird's Nest stadium. Walkers and middle distance women, plus Bannister throws himself into the javelin final.
• 'National Cross' heads to Geelong
  Some of Australia's finest distance runners are gearing up for 'National Cross' this weekend. The 2008 School Sport Australia & Athletics Australia Cross Country and Road Walking Championships will take place at Eastern Park in Geelong this Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 of August, 2008.
