Australian teams announced for Youth Olympics
Athletics Australia has announced the teams for the fifth Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) to be held in Sydney from January 14-18, 2009.
The multi sport event will see some of the best young athletes from both home and abroad compete over five days of competition. Considered to be a key stepping stone for junior athletes to reach the Olympic Games, the AYOF is set for some scintillating competition.
In all, over 1500 athletes from 27 countries are expected to compete across 17 sports, with the athletics competition being conducted on Friday and Saturday of the festival. Athletes from China, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand and Oceania will converge on Sydney Olympic Park to mix it with the three Australian Athletics teams – Green, Gold and Orange.
Sean Wroe, Dani Samuels and Olympic medallists, Sally McLellan and Jared Tallent are amongst a number of senior elite athletes who have left their mark on the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.
