Throws coaches coming together


Athletics Australia will host a national workshop for throws coaches at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). The weekend workshop will gather together coaches from all around the country, catering for coaches from development to the Elite level.

Key presenters will include 2004 Olympic Gold Medallist in the Hammer Throw Dr Koji Murofushi from Japan and Kirsten Hellier, coach of the 2008 Olympic Champion in Shot Put Valerie Villi from New Zealand, along with a host of elite throws coaches from Australia.

Presentations by Koji will include sessions on the theory of the hammer throw, practical demonstrations and strength & conditioning.  Koji will also be participating in a throws clinic with hammer throwers on Sunday Afternoon.

Kirsten will present on her coaching story, from a medallist at the 1994 Commonwealth Games to an Olympic Gold medal coach in 2008.

  • Saturday 15 November to Sunday 16 November, 2008
  • 9.00 am Saturday to 4.30 pm Sunday, including Conference dinner
  • AIS Canberra
  • Cost $180 including all meals, though excluding accommodation
  • Accommodation at the AIS available at $85 per night
