Vale - David Baxter

David Baxter
March 27, 1977 - July 3, 2010

It is with great sadness that Athletics Victoria announces the passing of world championship and Commonwealth
Games sprinter David Baxter, aged 33.

A member of Doncaster Athletic Club, David first gained national representative honours as a junior at the
1996 IAAF world junior championships in Sydney, before going on to make senior national teams to
contest the 1997 and 2001 World University Games, 1999 IAAF outdoor and indoor world championships,
and the 2002 Commonwealth Games. David's career was highlighted by his bronze medal as part of the men’s 4x100 metre relay team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester (GBR).

At a national level, David was crowned national junior champion over 100 and 200 metres in 1996, and
won silver medals in the senior ranks at the 1999 (100 yards) and 2000 (200 metres) Australian Track and
Field Championships.

David’s career-best sprint performances stand at 10.30 for the 100 metres, and 20.57 for 200 metres.

Athletics Victoria, together with Athletics Australia, wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to David’s immediate and extended family.

With thanks to Athletics Victoria
