Olympians to front Adelaide Invitational

Beijing Olympian Joel Milburn and Athens Olympics silver medallist Mark Ormrod will continue their quest for Commonwealth Games selection tomorrow night when they headline the Adelaide Invitational meet at Santos Stadium.

With a scintillating personal best of 44.80 over 400m, Milburn will test himself over the one-lap distance as he seeks a berth in the Commonwealth Games team bound for New Delhi, India, in October.

With semi-finals appearances at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2009 world championships, as well as a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at last year's Berlin world titles to his name, Milburn is one of the athletes to watch on the national track scene.

South Australian Clay Watkins, who posted a personal best and Commonwealth Games B-qualifier of 45.94 at the Australia Cup in January, will battle it out with Milburn as they chase the elusive A-qualifying standard for Delhi.

Joining Milburn and Watkins in a star-studded 400m field will be New South Wales 400m hurdler James Roff and 400m specialist Tristan Garrett. Two-lap specialist James Gurr, who produced a Commonwealth Games qualifier at the Melbourne Track Classic last week, will also fly in to contest what is set to be an enthralling battle.

Athens Olympics 4x400m relay silver medallist Mark Ormrod has shifted his focus to the 200m and will be looking to post a quick time after emerging victorious in the 100m at the first Adelaide Invitational meet of the season in 10.58.

The mixed 3000m will see 2009 world cross country representative Tara Palm and former national 10,000m medallist and emerging talent Jess Trengove take on New South Wales 1500m specialist Lara Nicod.

Tomorrow night's Adelaide Invitational is set to be an exciting showcase of high-class athletics action, with nine events on the hour-long program. A DJ will be in attendance to excite the crowd and expert commentator Terry McAuliffe, will call all of the night's action. The first race commences at 7:45pm and entry is free for all spectators.
