The Olympic campaign of Sally Pearson (Qld) begins tonight when the world champion and current world leader lines up in heat five of the women’s 100m hurdles (7:33pm AEST 06.08.12).
Pearson needs to cross in the first three to automatically progress to the semi-final tomorrow, with the final to be held in the evening session on day eleven also.
Australia’s middle distance ranks will also line up in rounds in the morning session on day ten.
In the men’s 800m, Jeff Riseley (Vic) will look to place in the top-three of heat two (7:58pm AEST 06.08.12) to progress to the semi-finals, while in the 1500m Kaila McKnight (Vic) and Zoe Buckman (ACT) will start.
McKnight will start in heat two (9:01pm AEST 06.08.12) and Buckman in heat three (9:12pm AEST 06.08.12). To automatically progress, the duo need to place in the top-six.
Flying the Australian flag in the field are Benn Harradine (Vic), Scott Martin (Vic) and Julian Wruck (Qld) in the qualifying rounds of the men’s discus throw. Wruck and Martin will throw in Group A (7:00pm AEST 06.08.12) and Harradine, who is the Australian record holder, in Group B (8:35pm AEST 06.08.12)
The evening session will see national pole vault record holder Alana Boyd (WA) and world junior championships bronze medallist Steve Solomon (NSW) line up in the women’s pole vault (4:00am AEST 07.08.12) and men’s 400m (6:30am AEST 07.08.12) finals respectively.
Boyd advanced to the final after a 4.55m clearance in the qualifying rounds, while Solomon made it five personal bests in a row with a blistering 44.97 to cross third in his 400m semi final.
Lauren Boden (ACT) rounds out the Australian contingent on day four of track and field, when she lines up in semi-final two of the women’s 400m hurdles (5:15am AEST 07.08.12).
