A trio in the field – Henry Frayne (Qld), Kim Mickle (WA) and Kathryn Mitchell (Vic) – will join Eloise Wellings (NSW) on the track when athletics competition at the 2012 Olympic Games continues tonight AEST.
Wellings, a late addition at the discretion of selectors to the women’s 5000m, will line up in heat one (7:55pm AEST 07.08.12). To advance to the final later this week, the 29-year-old needs to cross in the top-five or boast one of the next five fastest times.
Mickle and Mitchell will be on the hunt for the 62.00m automatic qualifying mark to progress to the final of the women’s javelin.
Mickle, who made the final at the IAAF world championships last year, will compete in Group A (7:00pm AEST 07.08.12), while 2010 Commonwealth Games representative is set to fire from Group B (8:25pm AEST 07.08.12).
Sally Pearson (Qld) and Benn Harradine (Vic) then headline finals action early tomorrow morning AEST.
Pearson will look to progress through the semi-final (04:23am AEST 08.08.12) and into the round of 8 (6:00am AEST 08.08.12) after a dominant 12.57 (w: -0.1) to advance as fastest last night.
Harradine’s best mark of 64.00m in the qualifying rounds ensured his second consecutive major championship final (4:45am AEST 08.08.12), and he will take to the throwers cage looking to improve on his 67.53m Australian record.
