Athletics Australia has identified for nomination to the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) a team of 54, the largest of any sport to date, for selection to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games in London (GBR).

On 1 July 2011 the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) approved Athletics Australia's selection policy for the London 2012 Olympic Games, and that policy was subsequently made available to all athletes. The policy specified that the qualifying period for all events other than the marathon, walk events, 10,000m and combined events commenced on 1 July 2011 and concluded on 11 June 2012.
Statement from the President Rob Fildes
Following discussions between Athletics Australia President Mr Rob Fildes and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) President Mr John Coates, the AOC selection committee has today approved an amendment to the Athletics Australia nomination criteria to extend the qualification period to 9am (AEST) 22 June 2012.
