Athletics NSW announces new CEO
Athletics NSW has the pleasure of announcing the appointment of Mr Greg Meagher to the position of Chief Executive Officer.
Meagher comes to Athletics NSW with a strong background in grass roots sport development and education.
Over the past four years Meagher has managed Australian Rugby Union’s recruitment and education portfolios with outstanding results, including developing the organisation’s education program into a market leading initiative which gained the Australian Sports Commission’s Junior Sport Award.
Prior to entering the sporting sector Meagher spent 17 years in education, including many in executive positions with schools.
Meagher comes to athletics during an exciting period for the sport and is optimistic about the contribution he can make at state and national level.
“It’s a great privilege to be involved in the future of athletics, the Olympic’s premier sport,” said Meagher.
“Over the coming years I hope to develop the sport at all levels, from grass roots participation right through to providing the structures and pathways that create world beaters like Steve Hooker and Jana Rawlinson.”
Athletics NSW Chairman of Directors, Peter Bromley, said Meagher’s appointment marked a new point for athletics to expand and flourish.
“Athletics NSW is in a strong position to move its operations to a new level and become a national leader in the provision of sporting activities,” Bromley said.
“Greg Meagher’s experience in implementing successful national programs will undoubtedly be invaluable to the future development of the sport as we move forward in restoring athletics to a position of prominence within the Australian community.”
Meagher will commence his position on Monday, 8 December 2008.
