As Australia’s elite track and field athletes
continue their countdown to October’s Commonwealth Games, one
Australian athlete is paving his own path to glory in 2010.
Australian adventurer Tristan Miller will on
Monday continue his ambition to run 52 marathons in 52 weeks when
he takes on race number 23 of his epic marathon challenge in
Keszthely, Hungary.
Five months into his marathon odyssey, Miller has already completed
races in 22 countries around the world including Israel, India,
Morocco, Egypt, Slovakia and Rwanda. In Rome, Italy, on March 21 he
recorded a personal best time of 3:11.27 and on April 14 clocked
5:29.00 over 56km at the Two Oceans event in South Africa.
As part of the challenge, Miller will
line up in the Running of the Bulls in Spain, take on the Great
Wall of China Marathon, run through the jungles of Rwanda and
tackle the cold mountains of Siberia in a fast and furious few
months ahead.
But it’s not just Miller who’s having all the fun; thanks to

athletics fan has the chance to line up in the New York City
Marathon on November 7.

Back on the track, Ben St Lawrence has set a new 3000m personal best overnight, placing 7th at the Ostrava Golden Spike in a time of 7:49.28.
Competing in the Czech Republic as he continues his build up to the New Delhi Commonwealth Games, the 28-year-old’s performance further highlights his recent form after securing the 5000m national title at the Perth-hosted Australian Athletics Championships last month.
Two rounds into the IAAF Diamond League series the international
athletics season is well and truly in full swing and the track and
field action continues to roll on.
Tonight, Delhi-bound middle distance runner Collis
Birmingham takes over the action in the 1500m at the
Anhalt 2010 in Germany.
Also in action this weekend, newly-nominated Commonwealth Games
athlete Jessica Rothwell will join 2009 world
championships teammate and fellow Commonwealth Games nominee
Cheryl Webb in Round 3 of the IAAF Race Walking
Grand Prix in Krakow, Poland, tomorrow, while fellow Delhi-bound
athlete Eloise Wellings takes on the Austrian
women’s 5km event in Vienna, Austria, on Sunday. Former
Commonwealth Games representative Peter Nowill
will continue his bid for selection to the 3000m steeplechase when
he lines up in his premier event in Cottbus, Germany, on
Sunday.
