Second title for Jacobs
Trevor Jacobs from Weston Creek Athletics Club made it two world mountain running titles in less than 12 months with victory in Bludenz, Austria on Sunday.
This time the World Masters Mountain Running Championships was his forum, after M50 victory in last year’s World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships held in the USA.
Jacobs also competed in the recent Jungfrau Marathon in Switzerland, finishing third (M55) though disappointed with his run - recognising that he started too quickly.
For the Bludenz 9km uphill course, he started more conservatively - holding at 12th to take the lead at the halfway mark.
The win came in 48:56, over a minute ahead of runner-up Aurelio Moscato of Italy (50:00) and Meinrad Beha of Germany (50:26).
Further back in the field,
Bob Flower of Victoria finished 38th in 60:19 and
Kevin Wills of Gosford posted 71:04.
In the W40 championship,
Hubertien Wichers of Brisbane was sixth in 54:31.
