Fun run set for annual Eden Whale Festival
NSW Maritime, Runner’s World Magazine, Merimbula Sports & Trophies, Deanes Buslines and strong local support have made the inaugural Eden Whale Festival Fun Run Event a great success.
Held on Sunday, October 21, the run is poised to be run in conjunction with the annual festival.
While many entrants in the event came from the Eden, Merimbula-Pambula and the Bega regions, participants were also attracted from interstate. The sound co-ordination of road closures, course marshals, drink stations and volunteers ensured the field of runners, in excess of 150 people, had a positive experience.
While a broad spectrum of age groups and abilities completed the 4.8 km course, the winners in both the male and female categories were 15 years old. Sam Martyn completed the coastline course in a time of 13:39 while Lauren Fox crossed the line three seconds ahead of her nearest female participant in 19:00 flat.
After successfully merging the participation run with the Eden Whale Festival event in 2007, organisers are turning their attention to streamlining systems and increasing the level of technical equipment employed in an effort to make the 2008 fun run a highlight of the Eden Whale Festival.
