Stromlo facility set to open

Athletics ACT has confirmed that the new Stromlo Forest Park cross-country circuit will open with its first event on November 18.

In the wake of devastating bushfires that destroyed Stromlo Forest in 2003, a recommendation put forward to the ACT Government by the recovery taskforce was for a world-class multi-use recreational sporting facility, available to both recreational and professional users.

To celebrate the opening of the facility, the grass-groomed circuit will host men’s and women’s elite 8km races and also schools (2.5km) and community (5km) fields.

Qualifying times will apply and fields of between 50 and 100 athletes are anticipated.

Indicative times are:
Women - 18:00 for 5km or 40:00 for 10km
Men - 14:30 for 5km or 31:30 for 10km

Prize-money for the elite races is $2000 for first, $1000 for second, $750 for third, $500 for fourth and $250 for fifth.
