Ultra Runners of the Year 2007

The Australian Ultra Runners Association has announced Tim Cochrane (NSW) and June Petrie (VIC) as its athletes of 2007.

In April, Tim placed second to Dave Criniti in the 50km in Canberra in a time of 3:05. In May he won the Wilsons Prom 44km. In June he won the Australian 100km championships on the Gold Coast, followed by a win in the bush capital marathon. He then ran 7:08 in the 100km World Cup in Holland (best-performed Australian) followed by a second at Brindabella and a dead heat with David Waugh in the Great North Walk 100 miler. Tim topped off the year with a great win in December in Australia's premier road race, the 246km Coast to Kosciuszko, breaking Martin Fryer's race record by 4 hours 9 minutes.

June was second in the 45km Six Foot Track in March and then won the 50km in Canberra in April. She followed that up with a second in the IAU trophy race in Palermo, Sicily in October, contested in very hot conditions.

Congratulations Tim and June.
