Performing at your best starts with looking after the foundations, your health, recovery, and overall wellbeing. This space brings together trusted resources to help you manage the physical demands of high performance. From nutrition and sleep to recovery, travel, and female health, you’ll find practical tools and insights to help you stay healthy, balanced, and ready to perform, both on and off the field.

Well-planned eating practices help athletes to train hard, stay healthy and injury-free, and compete at their best.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Australian Athletics recognise the importance of nutrition in an athlete’s health and performance. The AIS have provided several resources, including learning modules to enhance the knowledge and practice of sports nutrition by high performance athletes and their support team.

In addition to creating learning modules, the AIS have a catalogue of recipes designed for everybody with a busy lifestyle.

Hard training undertaken by athletes day in day typically means they have increased energy needs. Achieving those increased needs is a fundamental requirement of an athletes diet. Failing to achieve those needs, and for extended periods of time can have adverse implications on both health and performance.

Watching out for the early signs and symptoms of under-fuelling can help identify the issue early and help avoid the potential adverse impact on both health and performance. Learn more about symptoms and seek support from a sports dietitian who has expert knowledge in helping you to match your fuelling needs to training and competition demands.

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has developed a suite of resources to help athletes and their support teams make informed decisions about the use of supplements and sports foods. These fact sheets and infographics provide a clear and practical overview of the AIS Supplement Framework, outlining key considerations for supplement use within a high-performance environment. The aim is to support athletes in making safe, evidence-based choices that support performance while maintaining integrity, health, and compliance with anti-doping regulations.
