In response to a media article published on Monday 1 May, the Board of Athletics Australia has expressed their continued support for Chief Executive Officer, Phil Jones.

Phil’s contribution to athletics in Australia as Chief Executive Officer has been exemplary. He was selected to lead our administration after a far-reaching recruitment process and during his tenure he has directly contributed to the continued improvement of our structures and processes for the betterment of the sport.

He has led the successful implementation of recommendations of the 2014 Buchanan Review, ensured that athletics has maintained its funding levels from the Australian Sports Commission, strengthened our executive management team through sound recruiting and been instrumental in developing Coles Nitro Athletics Melbourne and other major events including the inaugural all ages Australian Athletics Championships.

We reassure the Australian athletics community that Phil is a tremendous CEO and that he will continue to be as we approach the most exciting IAAF 2017 World Championships in London and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
