Jordan Fairweather’s journey in athletics got serious in his late teens. Initially after just one year in athletics aged 10, he would return nearly a decade later.
“I was looking for something else after I finished U19s AFL, as I didn’t think I could compete with fully grown men in the senior competition. I was always pretty quick, so thought I’d give it a go.”
A few years on from his start in the sport, now aged 21 in 2025, Jordan made some significant progress in the sprints. With no 400m for the T35 classification on the program for the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, Jordan narrowed his focus to the 200m. Chasing a standard of 28.00 for the world championships, he made a promising start with times of 28.64 and 28.19. Then at the Victorian Championships in February, the breakthrough came with a time if 27.04. At the Australian championships in Perth, he would run even quicker with 26.89. A bonus in Perth was also breaking the Australian T35 400m record with a time of 61.60 seconds.
Disability: I have Cerebral Palsy and it affects both of my legs and my right arm. I get a lot of tightness in my legs and it causes me to limp, especially when I am on my feet all day and when I train. In competition, I can get off balance and I have had falls whilst competing…Advice to your young self: Never give up- you will fi nd your place, your people and your sport…Hobbies: Live sporting events, all sports, gym, gaming, the beach…Sporting goals: To compete at the commonwealth games and Paralympics
