Thousands of Australian student-athletes each year consider studying and competing in the USA. The Navigating the USA Collegiate System guide, developed by Athletics Australia with support from the AIS, helps prospective athletes, parents, and coaches understand how the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA systems work, covering eligibility, recruitment, scholarships, transfers, and more. Use this resource to make informed decisions that align your athletic goals with your academic future.
On successful application, the AIS Athlete Education Scholarship Program provides financial support to current Australian high performance athletes who are committing themselves beyond training and competition to pursue education opportunities. It is designed to ease the financial and logistical pressures of combining study with elite sport, giving athletes the flexibility and support they need to succeed, both in their sporting career and in the classroom.
Across the Australian Elite Athlete Education Network (EAEN), a range of scholarships are available to support elite athletes balancing their sporting and educational commitments. In consultation with EAEN partners, the AIS has compiled a national list of scholarships to help athletes access financial assistance, reduce study pressures, and continue their dual career journey.
For more information, athletes are encouraged to contact their Elite Athlete Student Coordinator (EASC), their Athlete Wellbeing & Engagement (AW&E) Manager, or the AIS AW&E Career and Education team.
The Career Practitioner Referral Network (CPRN) provides Australia’s categorised athletes access to expert career advice and guidance services nationwide, including regional and online support. Through the CPRN, athletes can access assistance in areas like career planning, exploration, skills development, employment pathways, and fast-track advice for transitions. Access and bookings are available via your AW&E Manager.
The inaugural AIS Virtual Internships Program is ongoing. Available to Categorised athletes, the program aims to prepare participants for their post-athletic careers. This accessible internship gives athletes the opportunity to gain firsthand work experience in their field of study while allowing for the flexibility to fit the placement around their demanding schedules.
