Aged 15 Roman Anastasios cleared an extraordinary 2.00m in the high jump to win the Victorian State Schools title. The next year he shot up to 2.14m aged 16. He would clear 2.12 the next year, but then he disappeared from athletics, until he emerged four year later post COVID. He was 3rd at the Australian Championships in his first year back jumping in 2023.
Chasing Olympic selection in 2024 he gave himself a good chance, equalling or raising his PB on five occasions up to a best of 2.25m. He set his PB at the Oceania Championships in June in Suva, placing 2nd. He then chased competitions in Canada, going over 2.21m and 2.23m. He secured sufficient World Athletics points for selection, however ultimately missed the team as Australia had four qualified athletes.
In 2025, he placed 4rd at Nationals and won a bronze at the World University Games held in Germany. However, he managed a best of 2.20m on four occasions, fortunately he still accumulated sufficient World Athletics points to qualify for the World Championships, and on this occasion, with just three Aussie in contention, he was selected.
