The 2019 Australian All Schools Championships in Perth have wrapped up with some brilliant performances from some of Australia’s finest junior athletes.

The day started off with the audience seeing 15 year old Kayla van der Linden (Athletics WA) back up her win on Day 1 in the U16 3000m, with a win in today’s 1500m with 4:22.96.

Jack Boutlon (Athletics NSW) created history in the boys u16 1500m by running a 48.04 and setting a new National record, beating Paul Greene’s 31 year old record.

Sam Clifford (Athletics TAS) continued his dominance with distance running in Australia winning the boys u18 1500m, with 3:57.53.

Clifford also won on Day 2 in the boys 3000m, but unfortunately due to celebrating in the last 30m missed the Meet Record by less than a second, speaking after the today’s race – Clifford said:

“Today was my redemption race,” Clifford said.

A highlight of the Championships and an event that has been talked about a lot in athletic circles was the boys U18 400m and the state of origin battle between Josh Atkinson (Athletics NSW) and Reece Holder (Athletics QLD).

Atkinson won last year’s u16 400m Australian All Schools Championships in Cairns, but Holder had been the winner in this year’s All Schools Championships, already winning the U18 200m on Friday.

Reece Holder won the event with 47.16 in very strong windy conditions.

Athletics NSW were the overall winners of the 2019 Australian All Schools Championships with a combined team score of 911.50 points, second went to Athletics Queensland with 819 points and third was Athletics Victoria with 723.50 points.  Athletics Western Australia won the battle of the small states with 682 points.
