Noella Greenham OAM celebrated her 100th birthday today on the Queen’s Birthday holiday Monday – joining Amy Burow AM, who turned 103 last month, as centenarian Athletics Australia Life Members.

Noella has had a life-long association with the sport as a member of Western Districts AC in Adelaide beginning her journey as an all-round athlete with the club in the 1930s and 40s. She later turned her hand to administration and officiating with the South Australian Women’s AAA – and was an active member of the group of forward thinking women who ensured that South Australia was one of the first two states to have a fully merged athletics association. Noella was a constant as a technical official at club, state and national events held in South Australia.

She was elected as a Life Member of Athletics Australia in 1973 and was bestowed with the Medal of the Order of Australia this very weekend – 25 years ago, in 1997, for service to athletics as an official and administrator.

Noella has also enjoyed a life-long interest in horse-racing and still attends on a regular basis – especially on the day each year when a race is named and staged in her honour.
