Australian Athletics extends its warmest congratulations to former President Mark Arbib, on his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Olympic Committee.
Arbib, who served as President of Athletics Australia for six years (2015-2021) led the sport through a period of significant growth and transformation. During his tenure, his spearheaded major governance reforms, drove improvements to financial sustainability while fostering closer alignment with stakeholders across the sport.
Arbib also championed high performance excellence helping fuel a resurgence of Australian athletics on the world stage, and played a pivotal role in securing the rights for Australia to host its first World Athletics Series event in 25 years with the World Athletics Cross Country Championships Bathurst 2023.
A passionate advocate for innovation, Arbib was instrumental in the creation of Nitro Athletics in 2017 and his vision helped position Australia as a leader in reimagining the sport for a new generation.
Australian Athletics President Jane Flemming praised his contributions and expressed confidence in his future impact at the AOC.
“On behalf of Australian Athletics, I want to congratulate Mark on this well-deserved appointment. Mark’s leadership over six years as our President truly transformed the sport. He led with a vision and we are deeply grateful for his service and the legacy he has left.
“I have no doubt that he will bring the same passion, strategic insight and dedication to the AOC and we look forward to seeing Australian sport thrive under his leadership as we get closer to the Brisbane 2032 Games.”
