The nation’s capital continues to be a happy hunting ground for developing athletes across a range of disciplines, with the ACT team for next month’s 2025 Chemist Warehouse Australian Athletics All Schools Championships locked and loaded to chase to chase national glory in Melbourne.

The championships will be held at Lakeside Stadium from December 4-7, with tickets available for purchase HERE.

Kieran Shepherd

School: Marist College

Club: Woden Thunder Athletics

Coach: Des Proctor

Events: U17 1500m and 3000m

Few age group races go by where Kieran Shepherd is not a factor, such is the consistency and competitiveness of the rising middle-distance talent. Winning a golden double in the Under 17 ranks over 1500m and 3000m at the Australian Championships earlier this year, Shephard backed up his medal haul with silver at the Australian Cross Country Championships, flexing his range. With 3:50.44 credentials over 1500m, Shephard looms as one of the sharpest young athletes at the championships and will be out to stamp his authority as a name of the future.

Tobias Drummond Templeton

School: Lake Ginninderra College

Club: Ginninderra Athletics Club

Coach: Rowan Vergano

Events: U18 100m and 200m

A multiple time medallist on the national stage, Tobias Drummond‑Templeton is a standout sprinter hailing from the nation’s capital, specialising in the 100m and 200m. The 17-year-old’s 200m personal best of 21.29-seconds is complemented by his 100m best of 10.65-seconds, landing him as an emerging name in the junior ranks with his eye-catching speed. Drummond Templeton is another prospect out of Lake Ginninderra College, which in recent years has also been home to middle-distance prodigy Cameron Myers.

Rebecca Howarth

School: Canberra High School

Club: Belconnen LAC

Coach: Rowan Vergano

Events: U16 High Jump and Shot Put

Competing in a rare combination of the high jump and shot put, Rebecca Howarth does both at a national standard. Whether she is soaring over 1.74m bars or launching the shot 14.33m, Howarth’s athleticism has taken her to the national podium on multiple occasions. The 15-year-old won both events at the 2024 Australian All Schools, a feat made even more impressive by the fact that she did so in the space of just two hours.

Macie Wilson

School: Daramalan College

Club: Ginninderra Athletics Club

Coach: Hamish MacDonald

Events: Para Discus Throw, Shot Put, Javelin Throw

A rising Para-athlete specialising in seated throws, Macie Wilson secured a trio of medals at the Australian Athletics Championships earlier this year. Her strongest result came in the Under 15 Discus Throw where she took gold on the BASELINE system with a throw of 9.67m, competing as an F34 athlete. Wilson was the only ACT Para-athlete to win a medal in the Under 18 and younger categories at the championships.

Elsie Hamilton

School: St Francis Xavier College

Club: Ginninderra Athletics Club

Coach: Philo Saunders

Events: U14 800m and 1500m

At 13-years-old, Elsie Hamilton is building an impressive resume in the middle-distance ranks over 800m and 1500m. The Canberra product torched the field to be crowned the Australian Under 14 champion over 1500m in Perth earlier this year, capitalising on her experience in racing against more experienced competitors. Racing all the way up through to the cross country discipline, Hamilton is developing as a versatile talent with both speed and endurance.
