Vale Angel and Carlos Basas

The Australian Athletics Family was saddened to learn of the passing of Spanish Athletics officials – father and son Angel and Carlos Basas in a traffic accident in New Zealand on Friday.

Both had so very recently engaged with Athletics Australia through last weekend’s World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst – Angel in his long serving role as physiotherapist with the Spanish Team and his son, also a budding sports practitioner, as a volunteer with the event’s medical team.

Carlos in pursuit of more opportunities in his professional development had also earlier volunteered with Athletics Australia’s Supernova Race Walking Study Project in January and February.

The thoughts of Athletics Australia and the Organising Committee of WXC Bathurst 23 are with the Family of Angel and Carlos and also with their many colleagues and friends in Spanish Athletics (RFEA).
