Injured Marathon runner Chris Hamer out

Marathon runner Chris Hamer has withdrawn from the Australian team for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games due to injury.

He only made the switch to marathon last year, after spending the majority of his career as a middle-distance runner. Team Australia press attache, Chris Abbott, said: "Athletics Australia has notified Commonwealth Games Australia that Chris Hamer has withdrawn."

Hamer suffered similar disappointment at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, when he was selected for the 10,000m event but had to pull out due to an Achilles injury. His withdrawal leaves Michael Shelley and Liam Adams as Australia's remaining representatives in the men's marathon, which takes place on the final day of the Games.
