 Athletes

The major role of the High Performance program is to prepare the athlete to perform at an international level.

From identification, nurturing, development and finally elite performance, Athletics Australia must assist the athlete and their coach by guiding them through the various stages of an international career.

The pathway to success is measured by an athlete’s ability to move through a structured organisation according to the development of their abilities.

Therefore, the allocation of funding and support to athletes is tailored according to individual athlete/coach requirements within uniform guidelines and available resources.

Athletes in receipt of support must be accountable.  They need to understand and accept personal responsibility for their performances and the management of their daily lives, as well as the obligations placed on them from Athletics Australia, Institutes and other supporters.

The range of support opportunities available to elite athletes needs to be clearly defined and communicated.  This support includes access to direct funding, coaching, sports science, sports medicine, education and domestic and international travel.

Athletics Australia and Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) will combine and leverage the collective resources of Athletics Australia and Australian Paralympic Committee in a nationally coordinated program that maximises the benefits for elite athletes and coaches. This integrated process will deliver elite services and support to AWD via the existing high performance structure.
