Athletics Australia recently delivered a TOECS Level 1 Lecturers Course in Melbourne. Running from the 22nd-26th May, the course helped the development of Technical Officials from six of the eight Member Associations, ensuring there is access to continued education for all Officials across the entire country.

The IAAF Course was run by IAAF lecturers Trevor Spittle (NZ) and Richard Lawysz (AUS), and followed a standard syllabus that contained 33 units across a full five days.

The topics covered included the practical and theoretical aspects of the Sprints, Hurdles, Middle and Long Distance, Steeplechase, Walks, Jumps, Throws and Combined Events. Also included were introductions to the IAAF Development Program, Officiating Philosophy, Competition Rules, Grass Roots situations and aspects of Competition Management.
