For 44 years the alpine village of Gotzis has been host to what has become the premier multi-event competition outside of the annual championship events. Taking place in the early weeks of the summer it is, more often than not, the venue where the elite multi-event athletes make their full 7 or 10 event start to their competitive season in preparation for the major championships.

World under-20 decathlon champion, Ash Moloney, has broken his Australian U20 record and achieved the seventh best U20 decathlon in history. Adapting well to the senior implements, he also has become the fifth best Australian senior ever. He scored 8,038 points to place 13th in the world class field.

Training partner Cedric Dubler was also very impressive, placing 8th with his second best ever score of 8,185 points. He ran a PB in the last event, the 1500m, but unfortunately fell just 15 points short (or 2.3 second in the 1500m) of a Doha World Championships qualifier.

Moloney set personal bests in the 100m (10.41), 110m hurdles (14.24) and javelin 56.19m. For a young athlete, his consistency was very impressive, close to personal bests in most of his events.

Celeste Mucci did not complete her heptathlon, not starting in the 800m after long jumping 6.06m and throwing the javelin 39.23m. On day one she had set personal bests in the 100m hurdles (13.02) and 200m (24.05). Her hurdles time moved her to equal number five in Australian history and edged closer to the Doha World Championships standard of 12.98 seconds.
