Biography

Shannon McCann first burst onto the national scene breaking the 2009 Australian Under 23 record 100m Hurdles record and was the 400 Hurdles Under 23 National Champion. Building on from that success Shannon represented Australia at the 2011 and 2013 Universiade, making the semi-final in 2011 and finishing 6th in the final in 2013.

Shannon qualified for the 2014 Commonwealth Games team where she was a finalist in the 100m Hurdles, recording a blistering time of 13.60 seconds. Shannon has also been a 2x National Champion, 6x WA state Champion on top of being named 2012 NAIDOC Perth Female Sportsperson of the Year and was nominated 2013 Female Sportsperson of the Year at the Deadlys.

A strong role model for all young people, Shannon is an advocate for University has been a part of the Raise the Bar Academy. She has also played a large part in guiding Athletics Australia in its journey of Reconciliation as a founding member of Athletics Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan Advisory Committee.
