Biography

Cedric Dubler played just about every sport imaginable growing up, as the active kid relished time in the outdoors exercising. For that reason, it's not surprise that Dubler found his calling in the decathlon - quickly becoming one of Australia's best in the event.

Dubler has compiled a tremendous junior career including placing fourth at the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships, before he won silver two years later in an Australian under-20 record. After a lean 2015 year, he was superb at the 2016 Nationals and Olympic Trial, scoring 8114 points to exceed the Olympic qualifying standard by 14 points and move to the third best in Australian history. He became the first Australian decathlete to qualify for the Olympics since 2000. He backed up his Trial performance with an excellent score of 8024 points at the Rio Olympics, placing 14th – the best by an Aussie for 32 years.

On limited preparation in 2017, he defended his national title and placed 18th at the 2017 IAAF World Championships.

He prepared meticulously for a shot at the Commonwealth Games in his own state. Over the 2017/18 summer he made improvements in the 110m hurdles (massive), discus and pole vault. On day one at the national championships and Commonwealth Games trials, he smashed his 100m and shot put personal bests. His overnight score was just 23 points shy of his PB schedule. He opened day two with a decathlon 110 hurdles PB of 14.21, then hit two more PBs in the pole vault and javelin. He closed with a solid 1500m for a PB score of 8229. He noted after the competition he had cruised in the 400m and in other events, noting his major goal was in six weeks at the Games. His score was the best by an Australian for nearly 20 years.

In recent years, Dubler has been joined by training partner and competitor Ash Moloney, with the two pushing each other to the next level - demonstrated by Dubler setting a new personal best score of 8367 in December of 2020 during the same competition that Moloney set a new national and area record of 8492 points.

Tokyo will be Dubler's second Olympic Games.
