Tim Fraser’s journey in athletics started in the U13s in Little Athletics. He was talent spotted, not because of performance, but his effort in the sport.
Canberra’s Tim Fraser made his Australian team debut at the 2023 World University Games, where he placed 23rd in the 20k walk. In the heat of Chengdu China, he clocked 1:50.36 – well outside his PB of 1:23.35.
In 2024 Tim twice lowered his 20km walk PB, clocking 1:22.03 (in Adelaide) then 1:21.01 in China in the cooler month of March. In April he placed 51st in the 20km Walk at the World Race Walking Teams Championship.
His progression continued in 2025, claiming silver in the National 20km walk in a massive PB time of 1:19.43 – #10 Australian all-time. In July he placed 6th at his second World University Games. At the Tokyo world championships he placed 39th.
In 2026 the focus for Australia’s race walkers turned to the distance of 10,000m – the event on the Commonwealth Games program. At the trials in January Tim placed third in a time of 39:28.76. In March he was 4th at the Australian Half Marathon Race Walking Championships. He backed this up with an excellent 21st in April at the World Race Walking Teams Championships in Brazil.
What Inspired you to pursue your sport: The social circles I got into, as well as the opportunities to travel and have many different experiences…Hero: Jared Tallent, because he wasn’t just a racewalking legend, but an Australian icon with countless achievements. He also ended up becoming my coach…Biggest challenge faced: I’ve had a fair share of horrendous results in international races. It can be a massive challenge just rocking up to the next one and not psyching myself out and trying to put the bad results behind me…Hobbies: playstation,..Advice to younger self: Keep figuring it out bud, you’ll work out what exactly you’re doing when you need to but for now, just enjoy the ride and the experiences you’re making.
