Australian Athletics, in conjunction with the Australian Ultra and Trail Runners' Association (AUTRA), is pleased to release the selection policy for the 2027 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships to be held in Cape Town, South Africa from the 6 - 10 October 2027.
This team provides a national team representative opportunity for mountain and trail running athletes.
This is a fully self-funded team. Selected athletes will be required to organise their own travel to and from Cape Town and will be required to stay with the team in the team accommodation for the duration of the event (more details will be provided to selected athletes). Costs to be met by selected athletes include, but are not limited to airfares, ground transport, accommodation, entry fees, uniforms, and a team levy to cover costs associated with insurance, administration, and team support staff.
Note that the athlete nomination form will be made available by the end of 2026.

Selection Policy
The selection policy is now available. Note that it is the sole responsibility of all nominating athletes to ensure they carefully read and understand the selection policy, including an understanding of the eligibility and compliance requirements that apply to team selection.
Nominating athletes should note the updated requirement to be a financial member of an Australian Athletics state/territory Member Association and an affiliated club in order to be selected. This change has been made to align with the Australian Athletics constitution and to bind athletes to policies and processes that govern team selection and appeals processes.
Team Nomination
Nominations for selection will open by December 2026. To be considered for selection, nominations must be received by 23:59 (AEDT) on Monday 22 March 2027.
The qualifying period commenced on 1 February 2026 and concludes on 21 March 2027.
Details of the selected team will be posted here once the team selection process is complete. This is anticipated to be May / June 2027.
